Residents of Ukkulankulama are experiencing an epidemic of Chronic Kidney Diseases due to their contaminated water supply.
Nestled in the heart of Ukkulankulama, Mihinthalaya, lies Ukkulankulama Vidyalaya, a school situated in the enchanting landscapes of Anuradhapura District. The resilient parents of these students toil as farmers and daily wage laborers, striving to make ends meet amidst dire poverty. Amidst their daily struggles, the village grapples with an additional pressing issue: the absence of clean drinking water. The groundwater, tainted with brackishness and calcium deposits, poses a serious health risk. Currently, 22 individuals in the village are undergoing treatment for kidney ailments, while many others have succumbed to this grave situation. In their plea for aid, the villagers have reached out to Gammadda, seeking a glimmer of hope and a brighter future.
Installation of an RO Plant in the village of Ukkulankulama using the centrally located tube well located in the premises of Ukkulankulama Vidyalaya as the water source. Install a Water Filling Station situated in the Ukkulankulama Vidyalaya which will provide the residents of Ukkulankulama and neighboring villages have access to clean drinking water free of harmful pollutants. Further, it will reduce the incidence rate of water borne illnesses in the resident population. Moreover, we will introduce a preventive and periodic maintenance plan to ensure project longevity by forming a Gammadda Saviya.
